Visiting Oceanside - Recommendations?

We will be staying in Oceanside for 5-6 days over Thanksgiving. Looking for good restaurants, not over the top price-wise. Preferably ethnic - esp. Thai, Cuban, Northern Italian, thin crust pizza, take out chinese (or eat in). Also, where is the nearest Trader Joe's (or a similar place for interesting snack foods and cheaper wines) We are not familiar with the area, so all help is appreciated.

Here's some real comments. Thai-Siamese Basil--5 miles away in downtown Encinitas on Highway 101.

There is only one Cuban, that I know of, within a 20 mile radius. I wanted it to be good, but it's not.

Italian, any of Vigalucci's restaurants in Oceanside, Carlsbad or Encintas--good, not great.

Pizza, there is no good pizza in San Diego, you might as well go to CPK. There's one in a mall in Solana Beach (about 12 miles away) on 101 in a cute mall. Also, nearby, check out the Cedros Design area for a nice walk around.

      1. There is a trader joes in Oceanside - off the 78 freeway
        Trader Joes
        (760) 439-4788
        2570 Vista Way
        Oceanside, CA

Also there is a Beverages and more a few doors down and they are having thier 5 cent wine sale right now (buy a select bottle of wine and get a second for 5 cents ) They also have a good imported beer selection.

There are few places I would recomend in Oceanside that are worth seeking out -a trip a little south to encinitas will provide better choices for Thai and Mexican or restaurants in general (do a search for encinitas on the board and you'll get a ton recommendations.)

I think pizzacato in Encinitas is pretty good (but its in no way gonna hold up to someone looking for NY or Chicago quality pizza)

        1. Unfortunately Oceanside just does not have a lot of chow worthy eating places. I am sure there are some gems, but I do not know of any.

For really good, down home, delicious Mexican food Bety's Tacos in Encinitas delivers (Encinitas is about 15 minutes south of Oceanside)

For sushi, Kaito in Encinitas is the bomb

          Kaito Sushi
130-A N El Camino Real, Encinitas, CA 92024

          Betty's Tacos Restaurant
1464 Encinitas Blvd, Encinitas, CA 92024
