        <content>All the recipes I saw for the crockpot called for 3-4 pound pork butt.  The pork fits, but I wonder if it's too big to cook all the way through safely.  Thanks.</content>

      <content>As long as you can get the cover on it, it will be ok.  If you still don't want to, you can do a nice pulled pork in teh oven - simlar to this one:

I just did one recently in the crockpot and the recipe said 6-9 lbs on low for 8-10 hrs.</content>

      <content>It all depends on the crockpot.  Why not cut the butt in half and have two meals?  Or, if you need that much meat, do it in the oven - 300F for 1 hour per pound.  Use a close fitting casserole or other covered pan, add water, broth or BBQ sauce (or a mixutre thereof, until the liquid is half way up the side of the meat.  This is a basic Braise.</content>
