  1. You've picked a great spot for your first 3 star meal... especially after just looking at the fantastic current menu. I thought they'd offer a tasting menu, but seems that they don't at lunch. I love the menu though. Anything you order will be great, so just go with what strikes you... there are no must have dishes if that's what youre asking.

That said, I will tell you what I'd probably have if I were ordering ... there are so many great dishes.... it might look like this...

    > Peekytoe Crab Dumplings, Celeriac Meyer Lemon Tea
    > Sea Scallops w Caramelized Cauliflower, Caper-Raisin Emulsion
    > Roasted Veal, Quince-Pineapple Compote and Roquefort
    > Verbena Poached Peaches, Bourbon, Hazelnut, Mint Ice Cream

very happy to hear that, getting more and more excited :)
the must have dishes where my question indeed, glad you didn't mention the caviar egg!

I think I'm with you on the sea scallops and the veal but I have to try the garlic soup with frog legs - only had frog legs once in paris and was very disappointed - there must be more to them.
for dessert I'm afraid I cant skip the chocolate cake, just to see what a 3 star chocolate cake tastes like! I'll try to talk my girlfriend into the peaches...

We've had dinner at Jean Georges once and did the tasting menu of his signature dishes. It included the garlic soup with frogs' legs, which was excellent.

You might want to consider having the Foie Gras Brulee. I have not yet had the opportunity to try it and since J-G is known for it, I was suprised it wasn't on the signatures menu. In any case, every person who has had it raves about it.

A close friend of mine whose opinion I trust implicity told me that the Soy Glazed Beef Short Ribs are terrific. I saw the photo he took. Mouthwatering!

I have to admit I was not bowled over by Iunuzzi's desserts. They're an assemblage of various items on a theme, but I felt there was way too much going on on the plate. So much so that when I think about the desserts we had, nothing stands out as memorable.

Enjoy your lunch at Jean Georges and Bon Appetit!

I had the short ribs at lunch - fantastic

    2. Hard question! I just went last night ... the seared foie gras with concord grapes was absolutely divine! So were the lamb loin and smoked squab for the main course...

There's no peaches for dessert. Right now you have "Autumn", Apple, Caramel, or Chocolate...

      1. I'd agree that you'd be fine picking whatever appeals to you.
But-I think the short ribs are the best I've had, anywhere.

had dinner there a year ago and just savored every single dish - wish I'd known about the great lunch deal back then, ha! I don't recall what dessert I had, whatever was on the tasting menu, but I didn't leave a morsel on the plate. I don't see how you could go wrong at J-G. Planning on heading back there for lunch in June 09 - hopefully those shortribs will still be on the menu - they sound awesome!

Since you bring up short ribs, ever have Gray Kunz's short ribs? esp. awesome when he does it w/black truffles... amazing!!

            1. re: WineAG

I've had them, and I think JG's is better...but I always thought Kunz oversalted everything.

          2. The foie gras brulee is one of my favorite foods ever.

You mentioned the chocolate cake, go for it. He was one of the first chefs to popularize the molton chocolate cake and I just had it again at the sister restaurant Perry Street, it is still the best.
