Rabbit

I am looking to buy a fresh rabbit. Can any of you experts suggest a shop where I can purchase one?

I just ate a tourtiere with rabbit in it from Deliso's at St Lawrence Market. I couldn't tell you if it was previously frozen or not but I don't think it was. It was the full rabbit with inards, head and all. It was cleaned though.

T & T have very good rabbits - from Abate packers (http://www.abatepackers.com/). Both fresh and frozen (I am stewing one right now in Belgian beer...)

I broke down and bought a frozen rabbit (pieces) at Pusateri's.

Sun Valley on the Danforth used to sell rabbit. Eyeballs included.

ETA: sorry, foodydudey, I didn't see your post first.

Is T&T's rabbit fresh, or frozen like the majority of groceries? I usually buy rabbit at the butcher, fresh...

                    I've only seen it fresh.

Lady York on Dufferin always has rabbit.

They often have it at Sun Valley near Danforth and Pape, but I'd call ahead to make sure.

Anyone seen fresh hare? Somewhat larger, probably game caught. I remember a sublime experience at Sharrow Bay with their roast saddle of hare (not sure how you saddle up one of those).

Depending on how far north you live. I've seen tons of 'fresh' ones in 'Weston Produce', Richmond Hill ( Yonge/Weldrick).

I know that T&T carries it. However, I cannot attest to its quality when compared to SLM. Call ahead to confirm stock.

                        Cheers!

I see them pretty much every time I'm at T&T on cherry st. Also, the loblaws around my place (on Broadview and on Leslie) tend to have it more often than not.

Or, if you're more budget-minded, my NoFrills always has it.

Fresh? I've seen it frozen at No Frills..

And where exactly is "my No Frills" located? :)

Just down the street from "my house." ;)

Mine is at Sheppard and Kennedy. And yes, they're in the fresh meat case, not the freezer case - since they're most likely previously frozen, maybe I should refer to them as "fresh," as Charles Yu does. They generally look pretty nice - I'm sure there are better bunnies at SLM, but it's nice to have other options.

I've seen it in a few places in the SLM.

White House Meats usually has rabbit -- they're at St Lawrence Market and on Mount Pleasant near Millwood. Call first to make sure they have it available.

I picked up some delicious rabbit from Fiesta Farms two weeks back and made some "Lapin au Vin".

                                Highly recommended...
