Los Angeles Area

Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in the Greater Los Angeles Area (including Orange & Ventura Counties and SW San Bernardino County)

recs for a brooklyn based eater

coming in from BK for a few days and I would love some recomendations for edibles around silver lake, Venice and Hollywood.
I'm looking for amazing chorizo tacos, bad ass cupcakes, best local supporters, good burgers, great breakfasts, really simple fresh italian. Pretty much anything delicious and on the inexpensive side.

Thanks!

  1. In the Venice area you will be close to some very good chorizo tacos at Tacos Por Favor on the south side of Olympic Blvd. just east of 14th St. (1406) in Santa Monica. In Hollywood I suggest you give Yuca's Hut a try. No chorizo but excellent cochinita pibil in either burrito or taco form. Great little place.

I see that Yuca's now offers cochinita in a torta! Wow, I gotta try that!

I noticed that too. If you get there I look forward to hearing your report. Maybe the OP will oblige and give it a try and let us know what they think. In the mean while here's a photo of the cochinita pibil taco from Yuca's to get the OP motivated. ;-D

    2. You have to try In-N-Out...yes, it's a chain, but you can't find it on the East Coast...and it really is yummy. They have a secret menu where you can get as many patties as you want on your burger, protein style (no bun, lettuce wrapped), grilled cheese (everything, but the patty), animal style (extra sauce, extra pickles, and grilled onions), animal style fries (fresh cut fries with extra sauce, grilled onions, and cheese...a heart attack waiting to happen, but disgustingly good), and neopolitan shakes (mix of chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla). So many choices, but simply declicious!

      1. second Tacos Por Favor
        Cupcakes Vanilla Bake Shop
Italian La Botte or Il Grano
        Burgers in and out
        breakfast cora's
        Wilshire for local produce

        1. Another place where you can sometimes get chorizo tacos is The Original Chulada Grill < http://www.chuladagrill.com/ > at Hauser and San Vicente in the mid-Wilshire district. They use chorizo in breakfast dishes, and will prepare them for tacos if they have any available. (You might want to call ahead and see.) The chorizo is very flavorful, but also very greasy. I prefer them to Tacos Por Favor for sheer flavor, though TPF's are less greasy.
