Peacock Indian Cafe San Jose

This is a tiny hole in the wall that is paper plate and styrofoam cup only servoce so you might be better off using it as a take out or catering resource. But by all means do come here. You order through a small window standing up, pay with cash and the results are
worth its relatively remote location at the base of Mount Hamilton.

A regular customer ordering lunch ahead of me assured me that the chicken biriyani was kept her coming back. We orderd that, as well as the chili chicken, butter chicken, garlic and reular naan and some basmati rice.

The biriyani is something different from what I had at Kebob and Curry in Santa Clara. The rice is very lightly seasoned, greaseless and topped with fried onions and a hard boiled egg. Complete chicken parts were submerged under the rice shroud and they were flavorful if a little dry. Very tasty but not quite as addicting as the Santa Clara version which seemed more suffused with flavor.

The chili chicken could be placed on a Szechuan menu. It seems truly cross cultural. It consists of battered fried chicken pieces bathed in a firery sauce, perfect with spoonful of plain rice and raita. The butter chicken WAS addictive. The curry was very smooth and paired nicely with the naan. Both naan were near perfect with warm and blistered dough with that characteristic chewiness that make it such a comfort to eat.

  1. Love when a hole in the wall has a website. There's also goat curry on the menu which sounds good.Their 'about' section just says ... "We are Specialized in Hyderabad Dum Biryania'

Does anyone know how this places compares to their restaurant on El Camino in Santa Clara?
