Tourtière et tarte au sucre

Where can I find the best of both in or around Quebec city?

I am longing for a taste from my childhood.

    1. I really don't know where you could find either to be delivered but I'm sure it could be done if they were to be frozen and then sent overnight. My mum did that once, she wrapped them well in bubble wrap and put signs all over that said this side up only and fragile and they made it very well from quebec to texas. I do have an excellent recipe for sugar pie that is very similar to the one they make at st-hubert bbq which I will give you but when you say tourtiere do you mean just the meat pie or do you mean tourtiere with meat and potatoes in it?

      tarte au sucre

      part A
      2 tasses de sucre
      2 tasses de cassonade
      2 tasses de creme 35%
      part B
i boite de lait condense eagle brand
2 tasses de sirop de mais

      preparation part A
mix all ingredients in part A and boil on light fire for 15 mins and then let cool to lukewarm

      preparation part B
      1. mix all ingredients in part B
      2. then mix part A with part B
      3. pour this mixture into 6 pie crusts (uncooked and homemade or store bought) and cover with pie crusts if desired or not. (I'm used to my sugar pie not having a top crust)
      4. cook at 400 degrees for about 30 mins. or until the pies set in the inferior part of the oven.

these sugar pies are excellent and really very very easy to make and you will be so pleased and proud of yourself. trust me. I am a French Canadian living in texas and every year I go home to Quebec with my kids and my daughter has absolutely gotten hooked on the sugar pie and begged me to make them for or thanksgiving which we had yesterday.they were so good and we have plenty left over. matter of fact if you make these; you will have more than enought for yourself and to give as gifts. You could also make these in a couple of 9 inch pie plates and just add a little time while keeping a watchful eye until they set. I hope this helps you and if you let me know which kind of tourtiere you are looking for I do have some really good french canadian recipes, I even have a super simple one for homemade cretons which is better than any storebought I have ever had. good luck, christine

        1. by the way' if you do find a company or restaurant willing to ship to the states, please let me know also. I don't mind making these sometimes but it would be nice to just have it ready on hand to pull out the freezer for supper. I really miss walking into store like metro and just picking up a meat pie for supper.
          thanks, christine

The OP is not looking to have anything shipped but rather looking for a place to find these in Quebec City. Though I've never been, it seems like Aux Anciens Canadiens might fit the bill. Don'"t know if it's good though.
