Support our Local Farmers!

There are still some farmers markets open in DC through Thanksgiving and/or Christmas. Check here to see which ones are still open. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/...

If you're in the mood for a road trip, the other market worth stopping at is out Rt. 66 at The Plains right off exit 31 at the Green Barn. There are vendors with a variety of goods. Their last day is this coming Sunday 9-3. You can get locally grown poultry, beef, pork, milk, eggs, wine, baked goods, pickles, cider, and Christmas trees. Last time I was there a woman was selling good tamales. I'll be picking up a fresh organic free range turkey there among other things. Coupled with a few wineries in the area it makes for a nice day.

The high cost of fuel and other inputs earlier this year and the economic downturn going on now is hitting these folks pretty hard so support them any way you can.

Or, support them for the fabulous products they make/have! If I could live on cheese alone... I would be broke.

Folks, we removed some off-topic posts about sustainable agriculture and the economics of farming. If you want to discuss those subjects you'll need to start a new thread on the Not About Food board.

Please keep this discussion focused on the food available at farmer's markets in the Washington DC & Baltimore area.
