Anchovies and tuna

bacchante Nov 19, 2008 02:56 PM

Has anyone seen Ortiz brand anchovies around? The cheese manager (in which department it was found) at Whole Foods in Clarendon told me that the distributor has become "more exclusive" and won't sell to them anymore. They are superior to any other anchovies that I have found. They are even better than buying them packed in salt and cleaning them and putting them under oil myself.

Ditto high quality tuna? The Italian Store has Flott brand sometimes, but it isn't a given.

You can order Ortiz anchovies online from www.LaTienda.com. Also, have you tried looking for them at Balducci's?

La Cuisine, 323 Cameron St., in Old Town Alexandria, carries both items. I called this morning to verify and they have them in stock.

        Thanks for these suggestions.

I did look at Balducci's in McLean, and they didn't have them.

I never even thought of La Cuisine. The only problem with there is that I'll probably come home with an armload of kitchen equipment, too.
