What to eat day of tasting menu?
To celebrate my 30th bday, I have a Friday dinner reservation for Manresa in Los Gatos, but I need some suggestions from experienced tasting menu diners on how to prepare my stomach for this meal! I'm assuming starving myself all day isn't a good strategy, and was thinking I'd stick to a few small and simple meals.
Any words of wisdom glady appreciated!
When I am looking forward to a special meal, especially a tasting menu that I know will exceed the amount I'd normally eat at a meal, I try to make sure that I won't feel "off" (the worst thing is going to a special dinner when your lunch made you feel sick), won't deaden my taste buds unnecessarily and won't be too full.
I generally stay away from foods that are too oily, fatty, spicy, heavy, salty, etc. - this will help avoid feeling ill and also help with being able to taste the meal better. I also try to stick to things that will fill me up but not expand - so no eating 4 cups of white rice for lunch, etc. Think about what you'd eat in the summer when it's hot - I like melon, light salads, cold rice noodles, etc.
