Pickin's are pretty slim for decent chow till you get to North Haven/New Haven. If you mean on the south side of Hartford, that's one thing and being willing to go to New Haven is another. There are a few places in Wallingford...
Can you give us some more help with where you are willing/wanting to go and what cuisine, price and style of place you are interested in? The options are just too broad at this point.

Bentara is located in New Haven in the Ninth Square area, so definitely south of Hartford. It's a great place for Malaysian food. Not too expensive either.
