Belga Cafe Beer Dinner - Is it worth it?

I just made reservations for Belga Cafe's Beer Tasting Dinner next Tuesday (11/25). Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find the menu or beer list anywhere, but read somewhere that the dinner will be 5 courses with 9 beer tastings and a "Christmas-theme."

I was hoping that someone who has been to one of Belga's beer tasting dinners might be able to tell me what I should expect, i.e., will we be sat with other people (chef's table set-up)?; Is the food pulled off the regular menu; How large are the pours (9 beers sounds like a lot)?

Really any information or reviews would be great since I'm going in blind and want to make sure it's worth my time and money.

  1. Sorry this is later than what you were looking for, but here's my two cents - Belga is not worth it. The mussels are fantastic and they have a great beer selection, but other than that Belga is overpriced and has some of the worst service you'll find on the hill. If you're craving mussels, be sure to have a reservation and plan to spend plenty of time waiting for the slow service.

service is odd, but I did have a great hanger steak there.

I disagree. I think most of the items on the menu are pretty great, and priced in line with other slightly-upscale restaurants on the hill. I agree service can be spotty, but i've never had a bad meal there.

I agree about the service. I work near Belga but seldom go because a) it's a little overpriced for lunch and b) the service is really weird there. Sometimes they are just slow but other times they have been quite snooty to me.

The food I've had there has been pretty good but not enough that I have gone more than a handful of times over the past 2 years.
