Romantic Vancouver dinner - help!

Hello! I'm hoping for some recommendations: my boyfriend and I are interested in trying a new restaurant in Vancouver to celebrate five years together. We're in our late twenties but are professional degree students, so are looking for good value in the medium to medium-high price range. I know this city offers some amazing food for good prices, so I am hoping to keep our bill under $200 for three courses and wine.

We've been out of town for a couple of years, so I haven't tried a lot of the new-ish restaurants in town. I loved Chambar when I went a few years ago, and I'm intrigued by Boneta. I was also thinking about Cru, which a friend of ours suggested as a classic Vancouver location which offers great value. I'd love to try West but think it might stretch our budget a bit too far; I'd like to feel free to order what we'd like without worrying - otherwise, what fun would that be?!

We're looking for a bit of a romantic setting, but aren't adverse to a lively atmosphere; I'm just hoping to avoid anything too trendy or young... We're looking for good food and conversation more than to "see and be seen", if that makes sense! Close to downtown would be nice, but we're flexible.

Please help! Thanks in advance!

    1. I recommend Parkside and Il Giardino (both in the high-ish end). Another potential rec is Five Sails in the Pan Pacific hotel.

Chambar is great...but it does get noisy at times. (Too bad Rare is gone....along with the food and service, I found the acoustics great for conversation.)

We love Parkside and it totally fits your criteria as long as you keep an eye on the wine consumption....

Also, you can look at the online menus in advance and strategize and then not think about it again once you get there so you can enjoy the experience.

          • An alternative to keeping it under $200 is to speak with the manager of the restaurant ahead of time and customize/plan the meal and drinks. Emphasize you want the occasion to be special and due to budget restraints, you want to have This way it's guarantee to have what you want & you don't have to worry about doing the calculations in your head during your romantic dinner.

              1. Il Giardino is a nice suggestion. I would also recommend Provence on West 10th.
