Blend Brunch in LIC
Visited 11/15/08 around noonish on the recommendation of fellow chowhounders (see this post http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/5664...). Here's my report.
Once again, this community steered me straight to a great meal! I had the carmelized banana pancakes w/whipped cream, andouille sausage, and fresh fruit salad of mangos and melon. My bf had the Huevos Rancheros and a side of home fries. We also split an app of guac and chips to see if the guac met my very high standards. It did. They fry their chips in house, so it takes a little longer than usual.
The pancakes were moist and flavorful. The sausage was spicy and meaty - perfect complement to the sweetness. The fruit salad was a welcome surprise (as it is not listed as an accompaniment on the menu). It was very enjoyable, but I must say it was one of the safer bets. I wish I had gotten my bf's dish!!
His Huevos Rancheros was gone in 5 minutes flat. It was a very healthy portion too! The flavors were incredible. Hot and savory and everything you want in a filling brunch. Presentation was beautiful. The home fries were the best I've had yet in NYC. Made up of yams, potato and peppers - the home fries were NOT greasy, just the right amount of crispiness, and packed with flavors other than salt!
We paid $32 (tip included!!!) for all this plus two coffees and a smoothie. We felt like we got away with a steal. Thanks for giving me the heads up on this place!
- Also wanted to give a shout out to Bricktown Bagels. Had a very decent sausage/egg/cheese bagel sandwich there and the service was sweet and brisk. Coffee was above average (much better than that Brazil place. Their coffee sucks). Has a wonderful laid back neighborhood feel. I did think it was a little pricey for a bagel - but hey, it's an independent biz.
