Kansas City Birthday Help

dhemmingway Nov 18, 2008 07:02 AM

I am originally from Kansas City, although I haven't lived there for the past 15 years. I am in town over Christmas this year and my father is turning 60. I want to be able to share a special dinner with he and probably 15 other family members.

Arthur Bryants is my first thought, because it's always been a special place in our family, but I'd like to hear what other foodies think.

Ideally, I'd like to spend $20-40/person. All reasonable ideas considered.

I love the Savoy Grill for a nice birthday dinner. Another good choice is the Majestic Steakhouse, which is just a few blocks away from the Savoy. Both offer great steaks and a nice atmosphere. The Savoy Grill catered to the likes of Harry Truman, and there is even a booth that has a plaque showing where he sat. It has a nice dated look that is like stepping into a time machine. Both are pricey, but are well worth the coin.

Look at Blue Koi. The original is on 39th street, and they have another location in Leawood. Check out their website to see if it could be something you would like. It is one of our favorite restaurants.

Few places do a better job with a group than Cinzetti's Italian Market Restaurant in Overland Park. The food is made fresh at various stations and is very good.

Genghis Khan Mongolian Grill at 39th & Bell in KC also has great food and does a good job with large parties.

Both are priced in the mid to upper teens.

Try the new Strouds on Shawnee Misson Pkwy. Or RC's in Martin City. Or for that matter Jess and Jim's although I'm not sure if that falls in your price range. Are you looking for BBQ only?

Doesn't have to be BBQ. Actually looking for something new or something that will be fun for the whole damn family.

Good suggestions so far, keep them coming.
