craigie on main, shabu square

I see Craigie on Main is open. Reports?

My husband tried to go to the new Shabu Square in Harvard Sq. Ordered and sat and read his paper. After 20 mins asked about his lunch and the waiter checked, came back and said "we're out of that." Manager wasn't helpful, so he left. Anyone have better luck and can give a food report?

  1. I haven't had a chance to write up a full report yet, but we absolutely LOVED Craigie on Main. I can see why Chef Tony Maws receives such accolades. The best meal I've had in Boston this year. Great service, loved the astmosphere, cozy bar area with Tom's fantastic cocktails, and WOW the food. We did the tasting menu - everything was great, no misses. Loved the smoked mackerel, grilled octopus, fried smelts, and pork belly, and E said the squab was the best he's had. The two desserts were excellent too - two types of panna cotta, and a cup of decadently rich hot chocolate.

Thanks for the report. As a long time admirer of Chef Maws (from the early days when he was in the kitchen at Clio) it's a great sign that he is already in stride at his new digs. What he was producing at the old place was arguably Boston's best high-end chow, so very exciting that he's now in a place where he can have more room to work in the kitchen, as well as round out the dining experience with a nicer atmosphere, a little more expanded wine list, etc... which was sorely lacking in the old location. Gotta get there asap!

I'm so glad to hear this! I'm headed there this Friday with very high hopes.

        2. Spotty review for Shabu Square, esp. re: service, in today's Globe:

This thread includes a report on my visit there, which was not anything to induce a return.
