Desperately seeking mexican food in N. Tribeca. Pregnant.
I am pregnant. I need mexican food ... bad. But unfortunately I think I'm @#$@ out of luck. Really I think I'm mainly craving hot sauce spiciness. Any chowhounders have suggestions for me? I'm willing to walk or pick up, but obviously appreciate delivery as it's getting cold!
Here's where I've turned in my desperation:
Delivery:
- Mary-Ann's. I shunned this place when I lived in the East Village, but unfortunately, I think it's the best we have in the area!
- The Bigger Place. I want to like this place, really I do. It's been 5 orders now that have been unsatisfying.
- Centrico. Overpriced, depressing.
To date, Burritoville was my best, sad but true, option. Now even that has been taken from me!
Pick up:
- La Esquina. but only when I'm in the mood to put on skinny jeans.
Please, please help!

Thanks! I always thought it was one of those sketchy chinese owned mexican places, but will give it a try today.

I know this is so not in Tribeca, but give it a shot anyway. Pinche Taqueria, either on Lafayette & Bleecker (right next door to Bite) or on (i think) Mott. Specifically, get the tamales. They're made by the abuela of one of the line cooks and arrive each week on Tuesday and then they sell them til they run out. As another pregnant woman, and one who also really, really wants spicy food, I'd highly recommend these. If you get some to go, tell them you don't need the beans, as they like to pack each one with beans and that's not necessary since the beans are not awesome. The tacos here are OK but each time i've gone, i find them to be on the small and unsatisfying side. The tamales, however, are really awesome and definitely rival some of the best i've had in Mexico.
I'm glad to see another pregnant woman craving spice! Everyone kept telling me it would cause heartburn...pero, no.

Brownie - where were you on Saturday night when I dragged my husband to Pinche?! I enjoyed the fish taco's but everything else was ok. Funny how great (pregnant) minds think alike. I am starting to get a little acid reflux but it's nothing compared to how good the hot sauce feels. Thank you so much for the rec!

Darn! I was watching the James Bond...and missing out on mexican! I only have had the fish taco and the pork taco. Both times i've been, i've squeezed lime on top, only to discover the lime was horribly sour and awful. Talk about acid reflux...course, i can get that from a breakfast of hot chocolate and toast, so I'm not afraid of a little hot sauce! Definitely try the tamales if you can get there! I'm going on Tuesday, since now that i've mentioned them, I really, really want one!

Pinche Taqueria. Really excellent, authentic and satisfies the Mexican Food craving.

Amendment to my earlier post. I have now become a convert to The Bigger Place. Order their chipotle sauce on the side ($2.50) and everything tastes better! Also for some reason the entrees that come with mexican salad seem tastier (e.g. quesadilla's).
