Trader Joe's Pumpkin Ice Cream- Discontinued

I had been waiting for the Double Rainbow Pumpkin Ice Cream to arrive at my local (VA) TJs. When I asked a few weeks ago I was told the Pumpkin Ice Cream would be TJ's house brand but would be "just like Double Rainbow." Well today when the manager looked in the great computer he found to my shock and dismay... the item has been discontinued.

Last year I had purchased the last 6 pints and thought I had hidden 4 of them craftily behind the veggies only to find someone had excavated the freezer and found the motherload.

My husband helpfully suggested we go to Baskin Robbins or see if the Ben and Jerry's store has it... but I liked the Double Rainbow best. It has, to my taste the best combination of pumpkin flavor, spiciness and mouthfeel.

I suppose my cholesterol level should improve.

TJs was uncertain too about the fate of the seasonal peppermint marshmallows and JoJos (oreo-type cookies).

They have had the vanilla marshmallows and have had the peppermint JoJos for a few weeks now. They also have a peppermint JoJo cheesecake...well there was one left in my store at 8 a.m. Sunday....

There was a thread about the pumpkin ice cream last month.

Noooooo! I never had a chance to try the pumpkin ice cream! A tjs opened near me at last this weekend and I looked for the ice cream. I figured they were just sold out.

Worse than that - I've been told that there will be no frozen pumpkin pies!! (Rockridge, Oakland TJ's)

Yep, I was at the TJs Fairfax, VA store on Tuesday specifically for the pumpkin ice cream. I was told the same thing - they are no longer doing business with Double Rainbow. I then logged onto the Double Rainbow Ice Cream web site to find out where else their ice cream is sold. Instead of just giving you information on their website, when you hit 'retail locations', it gives you an email form for getting a response from corporate. I inquired but I haven't heard anything back yet.
Why don't they just list their retailers on their website instead of you having to contact their company and then waiting for a reply?

My local TJ's in MA had lots of Double Rainbow Sorbet, but no ice cream. I really miss the pumpkin too!

That's a serious bummer. I was looking forward to the Double Rainbow pumpkin ice cream and had raved about it to others in hopes that they would get to try it this year. :(

2009 UPDATE: A friend in New York recently found the DR Pumpkin ice cream at his local Trader Joe's.. but none of the Los Angeles-area stores have seen it this year. :(

Libby's announced recently that they are ceasing production of their canned pumpkin for the season due to poor crops this year (bad weather). This could be creating a severe pumpkin shortage all over the place.
