Hitachino White Ale -- where can I buy?
I'm looking for a hard-to-find Japanese beer called Hitachino White Ale. I've looked at some liquor stores in the Princeton area and I looked at the Mitsuwa market in the Jersey City area, but have had no luck in finding it. Does anybody out there know if there is a liquor store out there that carries Hitachino?

Last weekend, I found a spot on 11th and Pine (or was it Spruce) that carried it. I want to say that it was also called The Foodery. It was very cool -- everything was sold by the bottle and you could freely mix and match from dozens and dozens of hard-to-find beers. I stocked up on Hitachino (my wife was not there to control my spending impulse). They had four or five varieties of Hitachino in stock, which was more than I even saw in Calif.

I was actually just in Joe Canal's yesterday, looking for it myself. I know they used to carry a lot of the Hitachino beers - the white, red rice, etc. As of yesterday, it looked like they only had the Celebration left, but I didn't do too much digging. You might want to give them a call and see if they're going to get it back in stock.
Good choice, though. I think the white is terrific!

Here you go:

scroll down to the lower part of the page, where it says imports, there is a picture of Hitachino on the shelves. It does state on the site that some things may not be in stock, but it's a start!

Most of the "good beer" stores carry some of the Hitachino line, tho' the selection often varies from store to store (possibly due to supply at any given time?). In the Princeton area, I'd check Wegman's and Joe Canal's on Rt. 1 and the Supersaver (formerly known as CIrcle Liquors IIRC) on the Rt. 31 circle in Pennington.
The importer, B. United http://www.bunitedint.com/portfolios/producers/kiuchi/white_ale/overview.php , has a website with a list of NJ retailers, as well. Tho', again, that's no guarantee that any particular retailer is going to have the White Ale in stock all the time.
