Good food in San Francisco area

We are visiting San Francisco for the first time in January and would love to get some recommendations for restaurants with good food.
We like steak, fish and Italian.
We would like some fine dining and also a few more casual places for nice lunches.

Here's the local newspaper's list. Don't know if it's included, but my first choice for seafood would be Sam's.

Neither Sam's nor Tadich. Gives me a lot of faith in the list. Guess I won't recommend them anymore.

What the heck. Lists are fun.

Fish: Pesce, Waterbar, Aqua, Fish & Farm, Swan Oyster Bar (lunch), Hog Island Oyster (lunch)
Steak: Acme Chophouse, Epic Roasthouse, Alfreds, House of Prime Rib
Italian: Perbacco, Incanto, Delfina (?), La Ciccia, A16, SQPR
San Francisco: Coi, Ame, Tadich, Gary Danko, Zuni

Come on guys we should be more hospitable like the folks in LA were. She knows the difference by asking them for nice restaurants and us for good food.

I agree. Being more hospitable is good but more information besides steak, fish and Italian and "good" would be helpful. There's probably literally 500 Italian restaurants within SF alone, not all good...but there's many.

So to be helpful, what area(s) are you staying? Car or transit? Price range? Ethnic cuisine? Without some clues, you could be pointed anywhere.

Any way, here's a few threads to give you some ideas:

For Italian look at: Delfina, Perbacco, Incanto.
