Fried Green tomatoes, please.

As an added treat I would like to add 'fried green tomatoes' to my Thanksgiving feast.
I think this is the board to ask for great recipes?

  1. Latindancer, this will probably end up being moved to the recipes section, but in the meantime.... these are probably as close to what my Mom makes as any other recipe. But she doesn't have a "recipe" per se.

    1. You'll need some sliced green tomatoes, a bowl of eggs (whisked), a bowl of flour mixed with seasonings (I use salt, pepper, some garlic powder, and cayenne), and a bowl of cornmeal. Dredge the tomato slices in the flour mixture (pat off the extra flour), then the egg mixture, and then the cornmeal. Fry the slices. I use olive oil heated until the oil bubbles around the handle of a wooden spoon. When they are golden brown on each side, I place the slices on a paper towel to drain and give them a pinch of salt to taste.

      My father loves them plain, but I like them with a little roasted red pepper aioli (mayo, roasted red pepper, garlic, lemon, salt/pepper whirled up in a mini chopper).

        Thank you both, Leepa and Jazzy, now all I have to do is find the green tomatoes here in LA.
        I love the aioli idea....that sounds sooooo good.
