Does anyone know what's happening with the Sayreville Tavern ? They've been closed for some time now , supposedly for renovation but there's no sign of any work being done !

Yes, the original owners, the Mayerks(sp?) "gave" The Sayreville Bar to their daughter and son-in-law a couple of years of ago and the son-in-law ran up large gambling debts and the restaurant is in a kind of limbo until the debts. are paid. It is supposed to reopen, though. I used to walk there (45 years ago) in middle school for pitchers of birch beer and Italian sausage sandwiches w/ my buds. I miss the Wed. night all-you-can eat blue crab special and the the Thurs. night all-you-can-eat ribs and the all-you-can-eat mussels in marinara sauce w/ a meal.

Fond memories for the Sayerville Tavern as our first visit was when our agent took my wife and I there for lunch after the closing on our first home in East Brunswick in 1976. This was the first of many meals that we would have here over the years. Always a good meal at a fair price and the nice people were a bonus.

Are you referring to the Sayreville Bar on Cecilia St (sp)? I didn't know it was closed. Hmmm
