I've been reading Fuchsia Dunlop's "Shark's Fin and Sichuan Pepper: A Sweet-Sour Memoir of Eating in China". In the chapter on Hong Kong, she writes glowingly about Cheung Fat, an old Chiuchow café in Kowloon City. I'm intrigued, but my best efforts at searching have failed to come up with any information in English (I can't read Chinese). Can anyone tell me where this place is? I'd be very grateful.

i believe it's Chong Fat - excellent chiu chow food indeed, but can be pricey if you're having stuff like shark's fin and cold crab. absolute zero decor and questionable hygiene (they were closed earlier this yr by the health dept but have reopened). it's more a dingy restaurant than a cafe. if you're into chiu chow food, this is a must. remember to ask about the daily soup (best to go with a chinese speaker and/or have dishes written down for you - the waiters are mostly 100 yrs old and i'd be v surprised if any of them spoke eng.)
