Frozen Artichoke Hearts

Thanks everyone. I'll give it a try - I've heard that they aren't as flavourful, but I know I can't be bothered with fresh ones. I'll try the stores mentioned - thanks again.

I've never seen them in Leslieville or anywhere nearby. As mentioned, you can get them at Nasr (I was there yesterday - several brands are in stock), Arz, or most decently stocked Middle Eastern stores. Be prepared for disappointment, though. Most that I've tried either had little taste or didn't taste good.

Be careful what you buy. I bought some artichoke hearts at Nasr once and they were completely freezer-burned. I thought they looked a bit chalky, but I didn't know any better. Really dig around in the freezer and compare bags. Buy the bag that has the least amount of "snow" in it and the artichokes look vibrant in colour.

I bought frozen artichokes once, and I agree with Embee, they were completely devoid of flavour and I love artichokes. I'd take the soft ones from the can any day over the frozen (if I didn't have time to fuss with the fresh ones).

Middle Eastern stores usually carry them. Try Nasr Foods on Lawrence in Scarborough.

I have been able to purchase them at the Loblaws on St Clair near Bathurst.

I've bought them from Loblaws and Highland Farms. Look 'em over, though. They don't exactly fly out of the case and are often badly freezer burned.
