Where to eat near U. Cincinnati?

Hello all,

A good friend of mine will be graduating from U. Cincinnati in December, and I wanted to take him out to lunch after the ceremony. I'm not looking for anything too particular - probably a good brewpub type of place, a local pizza joint, or perhaps Italian food, less than $15/person (not including drinks) is good, and cheaper is better.

I am 100% unfamiliar with the area, and so someplace that would be within easy walking distance would be great, so as to minimize parking disasters. And since it'll be graduation weekend, someplace that takes reservations would be nice (although I fully recognize that places that take reservations may be mutually exclusive with cheaper food, heh).

All that said: no one in the group is too picky about food, and if there's a good recommendation that doesn't meet the above qualifications, I'm still all ears. :)

Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
Our son is a freshman at UC & we live in Akron - 4 hr drive from Cincinnati. When we moved him into the dorm in September, we walked to a place called Chicago Gyro which is between Calhoun & McMillan Streets. The food was very good. Nothing fancy but some place close for a quick bite - a student favorite hang out.

We took a 24hr whirlwind trip down to visit our son one weekend last month and stayed at the Comfort Suites at Newport on the Levee (KY side of the river) which is an entertainment area. There is plenty of parking and it is an easy 10 min drive from UC. We had dinner at the Hofbrauhaus (the original one is in Munich, Germany, which we've been to.) We basically went to the Hofbrauhaus for the German food because our 13 year old daughter is taking German I this year. The next day we had lunch at Habanero which is a latino restaurant in the restaurant row on Ludlow near UC. You can find both menus online. Habanero is said to be the local answer to the Chipotle chain. There is also a Habanero at Newport on the Levee. Newport on the Levee has a website where you can view all the restaurants in that area There's an Irish Pub there on the riverwalk - something like Claddaugh and a Johnny Rocket's. You can even walk the Purple Bridge which is pedestrian only walking from KY to OH across the river on a nice day which may not be desirable in December, though. Cincinnati.com has restaurant reviews. Ludlow Ave is the "restaurant row" near UC and there are all kinds of restaurants such as Indian, etc., but parking can be a problem. Considering it being graduation weekend & with the traffic & parking nightmare, I'd head for Newport on the Levee and make an afternoon destination out of it with lunch, some walking, shopping, drinking beer, etc. Hope this is helpful.

Lenhart's German/Hungarian is within walking distance. Although I haven't eaten there in about 10 years, the food was terrific. Best schnitzel around. It looks like they might have relaxed the menu since I was last there, but it's definitely in the right price range you're looking for.

Mecklenburg is a good suggestion. For upscale pizza, try http://www.deweyspizza.com/ click the links to the Clifton location. They're in the UC area, although probably not within walking distance. They have a parking lot.
