New Years Day Lunch near Guggenheim?

Hi everyone

I am almost done with our downscale food itinerary for our trip in December/January - thanks everyone for the suggestions so far!

On New Years Day we're planning to have a walk around Central Park and visit the Guggenehim. We'll be looking for a place for a late lunch near the Guggenheim - probably at around 2pm - 3pm time.

Preferred cuisines are french, italian, american or deli style. At the moment I have Burger Joint at the LPM as the place as it looks only to be a half hour walk.

Is this a reasonable choice or should I consider someplace else? And will we have problems finding somewhere on New Years Day?

Thanks!

Tina

  1. Hello,
Before you decide just check and see what is actually open on New Years Day. I think it's one of those few days that not a lot is open here.

    1. It's more like a 45 minute walk down to the Burger Joint. I'm not sure what places will be open that day, so do call, but one of our favorite local spots is about two blocks away from the Guggenheim - Square Meal. They are unlikely to have gotten their liquor license by then, however. Another good place in the area is Sfoglia, if you can get a reservation.

      1. The Guggenheim is closed on Thursdays, and New Year's Day falls on a Thursday. Could be they have special holiday openings. Best to call before heading there.

Good point - another nice place, if open, is Cafe Sabarsky. Oops - just checked and the Neue Galerie is closed on New Year's Day.

The Met is also closed on New Year's Day, so that takes care of the Petri Court Cafe. If tinabull still wants to eat in that area despite the museums being closed, perhaps Cafe Boulud might be open. Of course, it is a lot more upscale that the burger joint....

Their website says they are open at 11am so hopefully we will be fine, thanks for the heads up though!

We like to have a good walk so at the moment it's still Burger Joint at the top of the list as we do want somewhere casual. Any other casual recs would be appreciated though.

              Thanks Guys
