New Year's Eve in Fort Lauderdale or area
I was wondering if anyone could recommend something fun for my boyfriend and I to do on New Year's eve. We will be staying in Fort Lauderdale, but would also consider going somewhere within 1-2 hours drive. We aren't really into the club/south beach kind of scene, and would be looking for somewhere that we could have a nice dinner and fun- with people around our age group. We are in our early thirties....ordinarily we would go to a concert, or have dinner with a group of friends at a nice restaurant, but we are going to be in Florida this year.... I realize this is a pretty vague request, but any thought or ideas would be most appreciated!
Wow... Tall order as I don't even know what I'm doing for New Years yet!
More info such a drink and food preference and wether you like loud or live music could be helpful.
Any restaurant along Las Olas would be a hit such as Chima, Johnny V's, or even the Samba Room. Other FUN restaurnts would Cafe Mortorano. Blue Moon, or Trina. More info could really help.
Excellent. Now we can't be specific as to what places will have as nobody is listing specifics yet.... But if I assume first on your list is most importnat which is vegeterian,
i would pick Sublime
Vegan restaurant with full bar. Truthfully one of the finest restaurants in the area and you will be hard pressed to find higher class vegan food like this anywhere else in the states. No tasting menu on a regular basis but who knows what happens on new years. no outdoor dining though. who knows about the live music.
Blue Moon is a great fish joint on the water with outdoor tables on the water. Champaign is available. Live music is not likely but its a lively place.
will write more later but gotta run to take care of the wife....
Having ate a lot of vegetarian food I wouldn't call Sublime one of the best vegan restaurants -- or one of the finest restaurants in the area. The service isn't great and neither is the food in my opinion -- very bland and tons of salt to make up for it. I've been there throughout their numerous closings / openings (3?) and I really enjoyed their menu / food much more when they first opened as opposed to what it is now.
If you are willing to drive down to Miami there are a lot more options available for you -- most restaurants have tasting menus and set times on NYE so be sure to call if you're going to one of them.
Azul at the Mandarin Oriental (great food, views, romantic)
Talula in Miami Beach
Palme d'Ore at the Biltmore
Escopazzo (Organic Italian)
In regards to Fort Lauderdale you could try:
China Grill for Chinese / Japanese (some vegetarian options available, nice atmosphere / outside)
Casa D'Angelo's for good Italian
Cero @ The Ritz Carlton (outside, nice view, ocean)
Sublime is alright if you want vegan food in Fort Lauderdale -- but I wouldn't really recommend going there on NYE if you're looking for fun and people around your age -- you definitely won't find that there.
The place most young people go in Fort Lauderdale for NYE is downtown on 2nd St (Himmarshee village) -- but there isn't much there besides bars and pubs.
