Caribbean Food Better than Bahama Breeze S.Fla?
Does anyone here know of any other good Caribbean restaurants besides Bahama Breeze in South Florida besides Jamaican and Cuban restaurants? They seem to be lacking to me. That or I just can't find them. I'm going through withdrawal here for shrimp that doesn't come out of a box that I can buy from the grocery store. And the last batch of noteworthy conch fritters and fries I've had was from a shack on the side of the road in Providenciales...10 years ago!.
I'm not saying anything is wrong with Bahama Breeze but there has to be more...right?
P.S. If you do know any Jamaican restaurants that are so good that you'd build a house next door just to be able to eat there everyday, feel free to mention them as well.
What part of "south florida" are you in?
Would agree on Calypso which is in Pompano Beach on Cypress Road a few blocks south of Atlantic Blvd. Jib room (Oakland Park Bvd)is okay -- a bit more upscale and not as authentic. There's a Chinese/Jamaican restaurant up near 441 and Sample road that has good oxtail, kingfish, curries, etc. -- you have to request the carribbean menu -- but worth a trip to try and has a wide variety.
Sango on 160th and US-1 for Jamaican and Caribbean Delite next door to it for Trinidadian Roti. Haven't had a bad meal at Sango and it's the closest to food from back home that I've found in Miami. Try the jerk pork with rice and peas on the weekends and the red pea soup when available. Don't be put off by the fact that Sango has a Chinese menu as well since that's very common in Jamaica due to a sizable Chinese community. Both places are heavily supported by the Caribbean community. Hole in the wall establishments in a strip mall but the food is authentic and yes, I've considered moving closer.
