I am having lunch with my 87 year-old mother-in-law. Where can we go?

Regards,
JudyAnn

Johnny's Luncheonette in Newton Center is a fun, 50's style place. Cabots on Washington Street also.

Farm Grill (Greek food, kabobs, salads, etc) on Needham Street is my favorite for lunch, but it is counter service. Otherwise, an unbelievably clean and delicious place.

I've never been, but hear good things about Fiorella's on North Street.

In the Needham St. Area there is also Skipjacks (seafood) and O'Haras (pub)
In Newton Centre you might want to try Appetito (Italian-ish).
In Waban there is Kouzina (greek).
In West Newton I'd recommend Paddy's (pub)

For something fancier, try Aquitaine Bis on Rt 9, Chestnut Hill. Next to the (former) Star Market. Good food and very relaxed at lunch.

How about the Biltmore in Upper Falls or Paddy's Pub in West Newton?

I went to Kouzina, in Waban, for lunch for the first time a few weeks ago and thought it was fabulous. Of all the choices mentioned in this thread -- and there are many good ones -- it is the place I would take my 77-year-old mother.

Agree with Blumie. Just to clarify sushidad said it is Greek .Well. sort of. It is really not traditional Greek and there are alot of meat and seafood options that are more American with a twist. Great place to take your mom.

I know it's a chain but my 86 year-old mom loves Legal Seafood in Chestnut Hill. Food and service are consistently good. If you go that route, I recommend you ask to be seated in the back so she can hear your conversation.

I wouldn't recommend Johnny's for an 87 year old MIL. It's too loud and the service is unreliable.

I second (third?) Kouzina for a lovely, civilized lunch or Ariadne, even though it's not what it once was. Also the West Street Tavern, where the West Street Grill was is now a little less pub-like and a nice place for lunch.

i like Kouzinas but if your mom is a hamburger/salad type lady, the Biltmore is cozy, friendly and has good plain grub. If you want to venture into Brookline, the Fireplace Grill in Washington Square has wonderful lunches.

                    Kouzina has great salads.
