Best Crossaint in Melbourne?

Does anyone know where to get the best crossaint in Melbourne? The proper buttery ones?

The best I have had, and my French friends agree, are from Monsieur Truffe, in Smith street, Collingwood, just near the corner of Gertrude. They are often still warm, as are the pain au chocolat, and they are not over-grown like so many others in Melbourne. Definitely worth it!

Monsieur Truffe are really good. Also Babka on Brunswick St do a fantastic croissant. Especially if you get there at about 8.15am when they are still toasty from the oven.

Filou's do a deal on a half-dozen croissants. Loafer are also great (they make their own - be conscious of the fact that many bakeries buy-in their croissants) and serve them up with butter and homemade jam. I think both use organic flour. Filou's almond croissant has always been pretty tasty, too.

The Commercial Bakery in the CBD were/maybe still are doing a wholemeal croissant, which was delicious.

I haven't had the croissant at D Chirico, but if Louis Vaussenat is making them then they will be great (hopefully he gets to make his mushroom brioche there - sublime).

there's a very good croissant place called "le croissant" - 1204 toorak rd in burwood. the shopping strip is really drab, but if you're on a tram or driving, it's worth the trip.

chirico is probably the best baker in the antipodes, if not the planet, though they are known for all sorts of baked goods, rather than just croissants.

Baker D Chiricio on Fitroy St St Kilda are very good and the proper size - not those cantoad-sized ones. Otherwise Noisette French Bakery & Café, 84 Bay Street, (03) 9646 9555 - the pastry chef is French.
