Looking for insider's views on where to dine in Christchurch, New Zealand. Looking for all types of cuisine and the full spectrum from cheap great eats to formal high-end dining. I appreciate all opinions from locals or anyone who has extensively traveled there.

Thanks in advance for posting your opnion . . .

haven't been for 2 years but spent 6 months commuting (from Sydney) and was genuinely impressed by the standard of fare i encountered.
I thought the food at The George hotel was fantastic, but there are also some great little Japanese joints, good cafes and a wealth of restaurants.
Check out Cuisine.com.nz for top end restaurants and recommendations.

As always, depends what you are after. A random sample: Fish and Chips at the extremely retro Fish and Chip Shop in Soho; St Germain for French bistro; Pot au Feu for a slightly more personal euro-experience; Pegasus Bay winery for lunch.

My favourite restaurant in ChCh is actually in Littelton, called London Street.

I couldn't afford the George

Yes, we are looking at London Street in Lyttleton and we may splurge on The George. I hear they have great breakfast fare too . . .

There is a place called The Bicycle Thief that does great contempory pizzas and modern Italian style food. Some of the best food that i have had in CHCH, its pretty much always too formal and prissy.
I'm heading there at Xmas and will also be going to Peagus by winery again for 'drinks and nibbles' one afternoon. Cuisine mag winery restaurant of the year.
