Chandler's Edmonton
For the short version, just check my username.
The slightly longer version:
Sad and run down describes the outside, and tacky tea shop on the inside. Do you have an English Grandmother? She might love the decor. I couldn't even be calmed by a small electric fountain, because it hummed much louder than the sound of the water running through it.
The French Onion soup was messy, but the stock was decent. Surprisingly I thought it was a little underseasoned, but if I somehow ended up there again I'd order it. Our waiter brought out our mains without clearing the appetizer dishes first, or even waiting until we were done. He also got me involved with the service by standing as far from me as possible and handing me my plate instead of coming to my side of the table and putting it down.
I ate the Monte Cristo, and aside from the offensive processed mozzarella that turned into a thin, runny liquid when heated, it was almost good. The turkey was a bland deli meat, which was another affront to my senses. If you aren't going to slice a turkey breast, don't put turkey sandwiches on your menu. There are plenty of meats that don't suffer as much from being processed - for instance I would never turn my nose up at salami. Actually I might if I had been hoping for some slices off a pork roast.
The side salad was plain and the lettuce was browning along the edges. Dressing was served on the side, which I normally object to as laziness, but I didn't mind in this case because I didn't want dill infused miracle whip on it.
I don't plan to return, and now that I've eaten there you shouldn't have to.

re: Bryn
Why? Ignorance I suppose. My dad wanted to go to Colonel Mustard's, but we didn't know it was closed on Mondays. I suggested a few other places, but he shot down all my old standbyes. Chandler's is nearby and I genuinely was curious about the place, and now I hope my experience can be a warning to other hounds.
I've hard worse meals in town, but I prefer comparing to places I enjoyed, as once a restaurant sinks to the level that I wouldn't return they are all sort of the same. I would say though that given the choice between Chandler's & McD's I would pick Chandler's.
