Staten Island is getting a Friendly's! It's going to open Xmas week at 2720 Hylan Blvd. It's in the "New Dorp" section.

I have no idea how to get there using public transportation but I'd love to know!

Need my Fribble fix!!!

        The S79 (from Brooklyn) the S78 (from the Ferry), the X1 (if you want to skip the Ferry).

          Seriously? You guys are excited about a Friendly's? ;) Having grown up in the suburbs where Friendly's is pretty easy to come by, I can't imagine where the enthusiasm would come from, esp in a city like NYC with wonderful ice cream shop options all over the place.

            I have to agree with you. I don't understand the whole friendly's excitement. factor.
            Like Applebee's, the best thing about them is their advertising!
            Maybe it's a nostalgia thing for some people. You can't put a price on happy memories.
            I think I'll stick with LaRocca's soft serve

              For me it is nostalgia- I don't eat the food, but I love the Fribbles- but who knows how I will feel when I don't have to wait until summer camp for one.

                Yeah, I think we all have a nostalgic feeling for some place./food from our childhood.For a lot of people it's some place associated with hot dogs and/or ice cream.
                I've never tried Fribbles - The name reminds me of those fuzzy furballs from Stak Trek, though I think those were Tribbles" :-}
                I think the restaurant will be occupying the old Pizza Hut sit right in the middle of a parking lot.. Very convenient. Based on your fond memory, I think I'll have to try it...
                Care to describe "Fribbles" for the uninformed?... AKA: Me

                  I find it funny--a Pizza Hut, I think it was a Nathan's before that, or maybe a Roy Rogers, all went out of business in that same location or was it a Sizzler? I forgot.

                    I may be wrong (That happens a lot) but I think Nathan's and maybe also Roy Rodger's,formerly occupied the space now occupied by Wendy's.
                    .I'm reasonably certain The Sizzler occupied the space now housing Chevy's Tex Mex.. Frankly, I'm surprised Chevy's is still open.

                    Basically a vanilla shake.

                      I could go for a vanilla shake :-}

                        Don't dream about the finest imported vanilla and thick rich cream- you will be disappointed. This is the "fun" kind of shake. The kind that you don't feel guilty having.

                          The kind I don't feel guilty about is the "finest imported vanilla" kind. Lol!
                          I'll keep my expectations low and my fun meter, high. :-}

              Me, six years old, big beef medium rare french fries and a chocolate fribble. Mint chip for dessert. every week. no wonder I was a blob. But you can't take my memories. That's why I avoid the place now like the plague. But it is odd now that you mention it that I've never seen a Friendly's in the city. (Remember when Howard Johnson's was a destination for some people in Times Square? Thank you, Chowhound, for changing the way we think about fast food...)

                I don't want to burst your bubble but I was sooooo disappointed when I went to the new Friendly's for the first time. It was horrible. They told us the kitchen was backed up but the restaurant was emtpying out? We waited 45 minutes for our breakfast. By the time we finally saw our food, I had raw eggs sitting on my plate...I couldn't even eat them without the fear of salmonella. When I pointed that out to the waitress, she went to her manager and told him that I'd looked like I'd "eaten shit" so they gave us a refund for our meal. I was surprised when she told me this to my face. So sad :(

                  I'd have to second awm's dreadful experience. I had very low expextations and it was even worse than I imagined. The worst factor was inexperienced staff with bad attitudes.
                  I cannot imagine how it will survive once the novelty wears off. If it has to be a fast food place I seriously think we need a better alternative, EG: Jack in the Box, in that location.
