Snow Cones / Shaved Ice as big as your head?

Been searching for a place in the LA area that serves enormous, cheap, amazing snow cones. I know there have been previous posts, but I wanted to start a newer thread in case any of these places closed down. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

I just remembered the place in East LA, someone help with the name. They serve snow cones in buckets. It is located on 3rd or 4th St around Evergreen, i think.

They also served shaved ice at Yogurtland in Sherman Oaks on Van Nuys Blvd. I've never had it, but I've seen it on the menu.

I was standing in line at Surfas yesterday and the woman behind me, after noting all the Monin syrup bottles in my basket, started up a conversation and ended up strongly recommending the aforementioned New Orleans Snoballs, at Slauson & Overhill. Has anyone tried it?

I think a place just opened recently in Studio City or Sherman Oaks, I remember readingabout it. Started by 2 ladies from the entertainment industry with their roots in New Orleans. Ssorry I can not remember the name.

              This is

              NOLA Ice
              13569 Ventura Blvd
              Sherman Oaks, CA 91423

We tried it, it was friendly, not Hansen's Sno-Bliz but not bad for LA.

We keep hearing about Tutu's in Simi Valley for Hawaiian shave ice but still haven't been out there.

That's because it's New Orleans/Louisiana style shaved ice, not Hawaiian.

It's not as good as the stuff I can get back home (in the "other" LA), but it's a good facsimile of the real thing.

Also, you HAVE to get it with the milk on top (condensed milk), for a truly authentic, Louisianian experience.

Guppy's Tea House, which has several locations now, serves shaved ice in 'clam shell' bowls. Yes, they are as big or even bigger than you head.

Shaka's in Alhambra. Eat it there and they serve it in a big soup bowl for like $2.50 otherwise if you take it to go its in like a 16oz styrofoam to go cup.

                Shakas Hawaiian Food
101 W. Main Street #C (next to Starbucks)

As I mentioned in a previous post, I can't attest to its authenticity, but they have started serving a shaved ice at Diddy Riese in Westwood Village. I've seen them and they are pretty big. Nothing exotic -- just vanilla ice cream, shaved ice, and a choice of three syrups. Like the cookies, ice cream sandwiches, and even hot dogs at Diddy Riese, the best thing is the price -- $1.50 if I recall correctly. Go with a friend so the driver can circle the block while the other goes inside, or you can use the public parking structure which is a block south of Broxton on the same (east) side of the street.
