Agree with Matta... Please be more specific.

      1. re: Mattapoisett in LA

Sorry been out of town for a bit, i was looking for along the lines of Indian, Thai, or even Singaporean

      2. Curry House in Little Tokyo

        1. Hurry Curry on Venice, great specials. I take Lincoln blvd (coming from LAX area) and make a right on Venice. It's just a few blocks from the high school. Great vegetarian selection, order the garlic naan, and use the mint and red sauce. I always get the spinach and potatos, lentils, and whatever else they have.

Is that Hurry Curry related to the one on Sawtelle? If so, I second. It may not be the best, but reminds me the most of the curry I ate as a kid. The raisins are key.

            1. re: a_and_w

No relation. Sawtelle is Japanese curry / food and Venice Blvd. is Indian food / curry.

            2. re: bellabella05

              must disagree with this recommendation.
imho hurry curry on venice serves flavorless, americanized versions of indian dishes in which the expensive spices are omitted and the cooking process is abbreviated.
on the other hand, their lunch specials used to be the cheapest version of indian food that one could buy on the westside. . .

            3. The Mock Duck Curry at Bulan Thai is AMAZING!
Basil, Bell Peppers, Pineapples and Something that tastes just like duck! its really tasty.
              You'll come back for seconds.
I promise you wont regret a visit to Bulan.
I like the one in Silverlake the best, but the one on Melrose does just fine as well.
Also the most amazing charcoal grilled pad thai. Its ALL SOOO GOOD.

Bulan has amazing green curry! it's unlike any green curry i've ever had. i can't even explain it... i go to the one on Melrose, didn't even know there was one in silverlake.

                    1. re: Servorg

I have food allergies so what exactly is veggie meat and seafood made from?

                      1. re: Hershey Bomar

Good question, Hershey. I was only supplying the website / link. Don't know what they use to make the ersatz food.

                  2. Foo-Foo Tei!! Best Japanese curry on this side of the Pacific...guaranteed!

2nd Keizo went for the first time yesterday. Beef Steak curry FTW!

                    2. What you are looking for is in El Monte. The Red Curry chicken and rice is excellent. Have some iced Barley with it.

Hurry Curry and Curry House and the like serve Japanese fast food style curry, not to be confused with Indian style spices at all. It is not at all Americanized Indian food yikes.
I think the Original Post is a little confusing as the first 2 replies indicated.

                        1. re: MaryT

I am not confused by the OP because "Best" IMO is Red Curry :)

                          1. re: MaryT

You are confusing things a little. there are 2 Hurry Curries One is an Indian Place on Venice and Beethoven Near Venice High which I used to live near which is Indian and not very good. and then there is the Hurry Curry Of Tokyo on Sawtelle Near Olympic which serves Japanese Curry. and the one time I was there it was decent but not outstanding for Japanese curry.

                            1. re: Mattapoisett in LA

I had some surprisingly good curry one time at Trader Vics at the intersection of Santa Monica Blvd and Wilshire right on the edge of Beverly Hills. Don't know if it's still on the menu, but was pleasantly surprised at all of the various condiments they brought out for me to put on the curry in little dishes.

                              1. re: FDawson

Trader Vic's as a Restaurant at that location no longer exists they do have drinks and some Appetizers by the pool.

                                1. re: Mattapoisett in LA

It's been reincarnated in the same general area as:

                                  369 N. Bedford Drive
                                  Beverly Hills, CA 90210

                                2. re: FDawson

Beverly Hill's Trader Vic's is gone with the wind...one of the saddest days in the history of LA is when we loyal followers were shocked as we learned they were closing with very little notice...some say Luau, in the same Beverly Hills vicinity, is the same....most disagree. There will never be another Trader Vic's.

                          2. IMHO you can't do much better than Salomi in North Hollywood, George Harrison's favorite Indian restaurant in L.A. Especially for their lamb rogan josh, tandoori and the biryanis.

                            Salomi Indian & Bangladesh Restaurant
5225 Lankershim Blvd, North Hollywood, CA 91601

                            1. Bombay Cafe in West LA
                              Bombay Palace in Beverly Hills
                              Surya on West 3rd street
Holy Cow Indian Express on West 3rd Street
                              All India Cafe in Pasadena
                              Radhika's in Pasadena

                              1. Curry means a lot of things. I tend to think of it as a turmericky yellow stew. I would say the best dishes I've had in LA called "curries" are those on the Southern Thai menu at Jitlada. For instance, the tea leaf curry.

                                1. Thank you to all your posts and suggestions. I love good curry and I have only recently discovered other types of curries outside Japanese style as that is what i grew up having. I'm really excitied to try your recommendations.
