Really good pie in St. Louis
I have for years bemoaned the lack of really good pie in the St. Louis area finding most to be prefab with gloppy fillings or mixes and the crust not being very good. I have searched various message boards and most come up with places a good amount outside the central city/ county area.
Until now! Sugaree Baking Company in Dogtown is opening to the public after 10 years of wholesale baking only to restaurants and selling wonderful pie at their bakery on Fridays and Saturdays. Home made, all butter crust, fresh fruit, real whipped cream, yum!
They have 10 kinds which will change somewhat according to season and whim apparently. I had a fabulous cherry last week and am looking forward to this week for others. Last week I saw pumpkin, pecan, sweet potato, cherry, apple crumb, blueberry crumb, lemon meringue, banana cream, chocolate cream, and coconut cream.
They have them in 2 sizes-6 inch and 10 inch-$5 and $15. The little ones are going to be fun to mix and match!
Glad that you liked them! I got a chocolate cream and a peach raspberry. It was the best chocolate cream I have ever had without a doubt.
And yes, Sugaree sells a lot of things but pies. Wedding cakes are a specialty. As far as what they have on Friday and Saturday for sale- mini cupcakes, brownies and blondies and they are going to have their fabulous cookie boxes for sale starting this week. The rugelah that they make is addictive. Also, with a days notice you can get almost anything that they make for restaurants. The lemon coconut roulade is my favorite-it is birthday cake in this household.
