Ornate Chinese Restaurants???

rednyellow Nov 6, 2008 06:36 PM

Are there any over the top ornate chinese restaurants in Los Angeles or near by? If anyone remembers Fung Lum on the hill at universal or the place on Doheney south of Wilshire, thats what I'm looking for. Good food is a plus, but this one is all about the atmosphere.
Tanks Doilinks.

Mission 261 has OK food, a somewhat ornate dining room, and occasionally live traditional Chinese erhu music.

I haven't been to every Chinese restaurant in SoCal, but I've yet to run across anything even close to Fung Lum... Maybe you can make a trip to the Huntington Garden's relatively new Chinese Garden - probably the best example of classic Chinese landscape/hardscape in the US... Go have dim sum or lunch in SGV and walk it off at the gardens...

Look, I'm not saying it is at all Chowish, authentic, a good value, or recommended. But in answer to the request, would Mr. Chow's in Beverly Hills fit the criterion?

I wouldn't call the decor at Mr. Chow's "ornate" or akin to Fung Lum.

I think Mr. Chow's decor is more along the lines of modern, or sleek.

It's been a long time since I went there but as I remember Empress Pavilion at 988 N. Hill Street, was on the ornate side.
