Pizza Authentica
I saw a new place, still unopened, on Wisconsin Ave. in Tenlytown called Pizza Authentica. Does anybody know anything about this? I hope it's real slice joint. It's location, just up from the McDonalds, makes me think that's a possibility.
Anyone tried it?
There's one unopened on L between 13th and 14th St NW.

Tenlytown also remains unopened. Looking in the window, I saw some very nice brick ovens. From google, this about all I can up with -
Pizza Autentica has signed a lease to occupy a restaurant space at 1331 L St. NW.
The restaurant will occupy 1,841 square feet within the building. Pizza Autentica will serve Italian gelato, expresso and pizza, according to Alex Walker of Transwestern Retail, which represented landlord Mortgage Bankers Association in the transaction.
The restaurant comes from Hakan Ilhan, who founded the Cafe Cantina franchise in D.C. It is set to open this spring.
The landlord is still trying to lease between 7,500 and 9,300 square feet of space, ideally for a full-service restaurant, Walker said.

The one at 1331 L Street is open now. I just got lunch from there. They are kind of like Sbarros - they have pizza & strombolis ready-made, and you just tell them what you want. They also have a panini menu, three types of salad ready-made, and they have about 10 or 12 flavors of gelato.
The food tastes good to me - I got a pepperoni & sausage stromboli and a slice of pepperoni pizza. Pizza slices are fairly large, as are the strombolis, and the prices are not bad, especially in comparison with some other places in the area.

We had the pizza from L St for a company lunch. Something wasn't right - like they use really cheap cheese or something. The pizza is way too greasy as well. One of the stuffed pizzas (there were a lot of left overs) was so greasy that it broke through the bottom of the pizza box. I probably wouldn't eat this pizza again even if it was free.

I went today, as I was craving pizza and it's close to where I work. I got a cheese slice. It was huge - one was plenty. I made the mistake of bringing it back to the office to eat, without first sprinkling it with pepper flakes - big mistake. It was really bland, and begged for some additional flavor. It was probably the greasiest pizza I've ever had. I went through napkin after napkin trying to soak it up. The crust was soft and and had an off-taste that reminded me of refrigerator biscuit dough. The sauce was sweet-ish and insipid. I agree with the previous poster that it's like Sbarro's - which isn't a good thing in my view. They heated my slice - but not for long enough. The good news is that my curiosity about the place has been satisfied. In short, I'll never go back there again - no matter how much I'm craving pizza!

Disappointing. I work near Metro Center and the L St. store is walkable. Is there any decent pizza in this part of town?

I've been curious to try the pizza at Potenza - haven't been yet, but when it comes to pizza, hope springs eternal!

Tried Authentica on a Sunday evening out of desperation. Terribly bland pizza. In the meanwhile, I stopped Potenza the other day. Didn't have time to eat but grabbed a nice piece of nuttella coffee cake.
But what's with the $6 cannoli. That only made me miss the $2 cannolis on Donna's grill days at the old Galileo.

I love the pizza at Potenza. It's the best I've had in DC by far. Granted, that's not saying a lot, but still.

Not where exactly you are near Metro Center, but Manhattan Deli by the Navy Memorial has some pretty decent pizza.

This place is right around the block from my office so i was hoping for better. Maybe they've improved since you posted this. I can take one for the team.

No, the place is awful. Domino's quality. My original post was before they opened, and at a bad viewing angle. The brick oven I thought saw was nothing more than a cheap gas oven with faux brick decor around it. It's worthy of never mentioning again on this board.
But, who cares, with a Pete's A'Pizza opening a few blocks away soon!

Where?? I could really use some good 'za! As soon as it gets a little warmer I'm going to make the walk over to Taylor Gourmet at 5th and K for the roast pork hoagie. Meanwhile, I saw the very intriguing Sauca food truck parked across K St next to Franklin Sq last week. Sounds like things are looking up around here!

Pete's is opening a new place at Tenleytown - not in the Franklin Square area, unfortunately. If only...
Can't wait to try Sauca!
