Bánh mì in Southern California

Servorg Nov 5, 2008 12:37 PM

Amy Scattergood of the LA Times Food section did a great story on Banh Mi in the greater LA area in today's LA Times. I will link to that story in it's entirety on the Food Media News Board, here - ( http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/569920 ) but I didn't want to lose her list of places to get this delectable Vietnamese sandwich. So below is the stripped out names and contact information of all of the shops she discusses in her article. Thanks, Amy!

There have been banh mi places on the Westside. They were all very expensive by banh mi standards, Chowhounds whined about how they were $6 instead of $2, and they ended up closing.

Banh mi is not a high-profit thing. The one that lasted longest was the "buck fitty" sandwich shack on Gayley, which closed almost ten years ago.

You can actually get a passable banh mi at Pho 99 on Wilshire. Be sure to ask them to add cilantro and chilis, as it only comes with carrots, cucumbers, and mayo. It's about $4, which is expensive for banh mi but pretty reasonable by westside sandwich standards.

        PS: Great list Servorg!
