Eggs from Adams & Friend Farm (Santa Rosa)

  • 1

Adams & Friend Farm is just a short walk from my friends’ vineyard and many times I’d taken note of the sign posted by the driveway promoting down and feather pillow and comforter reconditioning. Then my friend mentioned that she buys here eggs here and I had to check it out.

Here’s the photo from last year showing where the hens hang out with their geese and duck friends.

The eggs are in re-used cartons stacked in a refrigerator behind this door. Recycle your egg cartons here.

Payment is on the honor system, so bring small bills. This shows the self-serve instructions.

The current price is $3.75 per dozen. Nearly all the eggs are brown with an occasional white one and quite large, probably mostly extra large grade to my eye with a few larges. Eggs aren’t available all the time and there aren’t that many of them. I imagine that the neighbors buy most of them. I’ve bought them five times in the last year when I’ve had the opportunity, and have found them to be very fresh with thick and firm whites and round, high-sitting prominent yolks.

I wouldn’t make a special trip for them, since there’s no predicting when eggs will be available here. But if you’re in the neighborhood, that is, a stone’s throw from River Road and Trenton Road in Russian River Valley, it’s worth a short detour to see if the “eggs for sale” sign is up.

  1. I got eggs from Adams again on Sunday. They'd just been gathered, not refrigerated yet, and still warm! These were even bigger, into the jumbo category with a few larges mixed in. The price has gone up to $4 per dozen. My mom made a great orange chiffon cake.
