Cho Cho San is amazing in the West Village - try there!

Yama sucks anyway, Ushiwakamaru is really close to that shuttered Yama

I gave Yama four tries (twice at Irving Place, twice at Houston). I did not have one good - or even satisfactory - experience. Try Takahashi on A & 5th. Or practically anywhere else, really, except for Avenue A Sushi, which is also horrible.

any Yama that's closed is a good Yama...awful trash-can sushi...

but to be constructive: if you want inexpensive sushi options downtown, i'd rec Natori or Sapporo East...
