Block Island in the Winter
I am looking for a quiet 2-3 day New Year's getaway and Block Island is one option.
Looks like the 1661 Inn is open and serves breakfast, but wondering about other dining options during the off season and during this holiday time.

Lucky for you, RI has a law that bars have to serve food (on at least some level) during the hours that they serve liquor. Thus you can eat at Club Soda or at their new restaurant upstairs called Wetherbee's that will only be open for the "winter." The Albion Pub is connected to the restaurant Swashbucklers, which is very popular with locals. Eli's ( a favorite on this board) will close around Thanksgiving but will be doing a special New Year's Eve dinner. The message on their phone says that there will be two seatings - one at 6 and one at 9. You need reservations though. The Hotel Manisses, which is owned by the same people as the 1661 also does New Year's Eve dinner. McGovern's Yellow Kittens throws a big bash too, but they are a bit thin on the food offerings...
For breakfast and lunch there is Bethany's Airport Diner. They are open every day except Christmas. And the local grocery stores serve hot soup and sandwiches to go. One of them also does nightly dinner specials.
It is always amazing to me that so many people come to Block Island for New Years, but they do! Don't forget your bathing suit for the very popular Polar Plunge on New Year's Day....it's a great way to knock that hang-over right out of ya.
