Banana Cream Pie in Toronto?

For an upcoming birthday I'm looking for an outstanding banana cream pie, ideally from a Toronto bakery or some place that happily does takeout (i.e. I'm not looking for a sit-down restaurant experience. Just hand over the pie, I'll leave quietly, etc).

The one memorable BCP I've had in this city came from Altitude Bakery down on Queen East. These days you have to special order, which isn't such a big deal, but I thought it might be worth looking for something better. Altitude has sold me at least one burnt pie and a couple of others that just weren't very good in the past year - they're becoming erratic, and along with "outstanding", I'm also looking for "reliable".

You could probably call lPangea restaurant and speak to the pastry department there and order one to go. Johanna Yolles is their pastry chef and she is renowned for her bcp.

I second the vote for Wanda's. And they will do a vegan version, and gluten-free versions and a bunch of other allergy-free versions by request.

Whole Foods has a great banana cream pie with a chocolate crust, and Marvellous Edibles on Laird has fabulous coconut banana cream tarts. Both are made with real whipping cream.

Heartily agree with your recommendation of Marvellous Edibles!!! Delicious coconut, banana cream pie. Consistently excellent. Tart crust, banana inside, tons of whipped cream, and coconut on top. Yum!
