Amsterdam recs for sweets and cheese?

Hi -

We'll be in Amsterdam for 5 days and would like to get some good cheese (not just gouda and the like -- French, English, etc) as well as some baked goods. I saw a reference to a bakery, Il Fornio (I know I'm butchering it) but it looked like all they do is bread. Any places that have good tarts, cookies and other sweets?

Thanks!

    1. It's always helpful to do a search on previous threads about Amsterdam.

That said, the best damn chocolate in the world is available at Puccini Bomboni.

        1. I second the Puccini Bomboni recommendation for chocolates. They are the best I've ever tasted. They have two locations in Amsterdam, both in very convenient spots. There are many good bakeries in Amsterdam, but I don't have a name that comes to mind. You will spot them all over the city as you walk around.

            1. I third Puccini Bomboni.I have dreams about this place. The Honey Bon Bon is outrageous.

For Cheese we hit Kaasland. There are a couple of them. One on the Single and one on Harleemerdjik. The Moustard Kaas is real nice on a slice of bread.

                1. Are you referring to the bakery called Le Fournil de Sébastien on Olympiaplein? It's a great French bakery that makes many French style breads and croissants. They also have sweet stuff. I like their crème brulée tart a lot!

And there is a great cheese store just down the road: The Tromp Winkel on Beethovenstraat on the corner of Stadionweg. They have many kinds of cheeses and friendly and knowledgeable staff to help you make your selection!

                  Hope this helps!
