San Francisco Bay Area

Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in the SF Bay Area (including Berkeley, Oakland, Napa, Sonoma, Marin, and San Jose)

Mountain View: Europa Express

This southern outpost of the two San Francisco markets of the same name, is large, clean and seems to have a room where alcohol is served by the glass. There is a separate room with a bar and a few tables.

I got there just around closing so only had time to look around quickly. There's a large deli case in back. There are gallon containers of various brands of Kvass, a beverage made from fermented rye. Lots of the usual brands of breads and baked goods. There are a few long aisles of groceries, and cases of cryovacked sausages, fish and dairy products.

Oddly enough, though it is larger than the San Francisco markets, it doesn't seem to have as much. The La Playa Europa Express has a more extensive fish selection and a better dairy selection. They don't seem to carry the excellent breads baked in-house at the Irving location. Fine if you are in the area, but for me not worth a special trip. I'd probably be more likely to shop at Crossraods if I lived in the immediate area.
