Dinner near Carlu?

Any ideas for something nice but not too too expensive within a comfortable walking distance of the Carlu? I like Oro but it can get a bit pricey for a group.

How about Barberian's at Yonge & Elm? Too pricey?

If the group would do Thai, maybe Linda (above Salad King) at Yonge & Gould.

On Church in the gaybourhood, there's either Il Fornello or Byzantium.

I *think* that if you're looking for comfortable walking distance AND mid-priced you'll find you'll have to sacrifice one or the other. It isn't exactly a hotbed of fine dining at that intersection. Being right on the subway line may alleviate the walking problem. Let us know if you can give something up.

As you may know, most Carlu events are very well catered. What's your event?

I don't expect people to be too hungry -- as you say, there will be food at the event -- so I'd be inclined to compromise on price rather than location. Perhaps I'm best off with Oro after all? Are there other spots on Elm in that range?

If you're just nibbling and sipping, then perhaps Volo might do it. Located at Yonge & Dundonald, it's still a 1/2 k away, but that's about as close as it gets.

If you're having a full dinner then, yeah, Oro's your best and closest bet. Elm St's loaded with restaurants, but Oro's the outstanding one.
