my foodie sisters are coming to visit from NY

My foodie sisters are coming for a visit next weekend from Long Island. I would love to take them to an Italian restaurant in South Philly and really impress them. Preferably not Ralph's or Villa di Roma. And a BYOB would be just fine.Cost is not an issue. Thanks in advance.

    1. I like Paradiso on Passyunk Ave. Very good food and polished service. It's not a BYOB.

Definitely order the pappardelle with wild mushrooms.

Paradiso is an excellent suggestion. We go to several Italian restaurants in South Philly, but Paradiso would get my vote for this occasion.

          • I'm a fan of BYOB Tre Scalini.

And Tre Scalini is our favorite BYOB in South Philly. The veal filets and veal chop are specialties there, and they are excellent. All the pastas are terrific, as is the polenta with broccoli rabe, the mixed seafood appetizer (like a mini bouillabaise), etc.

Paradiso is a bit more polished, and sometimes it's nice to be able to order a drink.
But both of these places are on our "regulars" list.

                • Its not Italian but if the price is no object I know that anyone from NY will be impressed with the food and the atmosphere is killer! I would also take them to China Town for a meal and the Reading terminal market for a meal or snack...

Are you aware that the original post is from a year ago? I hope the foodie sisters have had dinner by now!
                      I don't even know if I would give the same recommendations . . . . .
