Whatever happened to La Strega in mid-Wilshire?

Anyone remember La Strega near downtown LA? They had maybe the best fugazetta pizza - stuffed with white onions, ham and cheese. I haven't been in that neighborhood in years and I can't find any links to the place. Thanks for any help.

  1. The building was torn down when they built the metro plazas for the red line.

    1. Back when I worked in Hollywood we used to go to a La Strega on Western Ave. I believe between Beverly Blvd. and Santa Monica Blvd.

They had the best Pizza! Sadly I left the area in 1989 and neve had occassion to return to the area but I'm still sorry to hear it's gone.

      1. La Strega was my "go to" place in the late 1970's. Started as a small, neighborhood Italian place, but gradually become more high end, with a very large wine list. Got harder to get into, and more expensive, and I stopped going. But the food was very good, and not just pizzas. I remember especially my first experience with "bagna cauda" there, still memorable.

        1. I loved La Strega also. Sad to say it's gone.

          1. Oh gosh, I used to love that place. They had the best salad dressing....they'd always give me some in a jar to take home. Thanks for calling up a happy memory!

I lived in mid-Wilshire in the 1980's and they'd deliver the pizza, which was great!

              1. La Strega is definately on my top ten list of defunct LA restaurants whose absence I regret (along with Ah Fong's, Scandia, Arlene's Doughnuts, etc.)
