Coffee place downtown

cat77 Oct 30, 2008 03:42 AM

Looking for a place to meet for coffee downtown that I can relax and have a quiet conversation

I'm a big fan of Mercury Dime on East 5th.

Their coffee is fantastic and there are two small seating areas on the ground floor and upstairs. However, this is the kind of place where your quiet conversation could easily be part of a larger, inviting conversation with the friendly owner (TJ) and his staff; an aspect I love about the place, but you could always scoot upstairs and snag a table that isn't already occupied by a laptop.

Didn't it close a couple months ago?

No. Mercury Dime is still open.

Is their wireless up and running? Reliable? I thought Sasha from Milk and Honey, White Star, etc. was the owner? Or maybe he is the co-owner.

I know that Mercury Dime isn't doing too well right now, and they applied for a liquor license, claiming they really needed the extra business, but they were denied, so maybe that is why xigua is wondering if it is still open.

Sasha and TJ are partners in the Mercury Dime. TJ runs it and is in there almost every day so he is the face of the business.

Yes, the wireless is great. Plugs available upstairs only.

In FiDi, Jacks on Front or Financier on Stone or the larger location near the Federal Reserve/JP Morgan Chase. Near Union Square I like Danal (it's a restaurant not a coffee shop).
