I've lived a couple of blocks away since 1990. I think I last ate there in 1991. Hope the location gets something good.

I'm not that surprised. Worst....service...ever!!
I've worked nearby for 4+ years and use to eat there with co-workers quite often. I stopped about 3 years in because the service was just horrible. The sandwiches and soups were good, as are the pastries. But nothing could make up for their lackluster service.
Any clue if anything else is going to go in that space? It's a great location!

re: ChewFun
How can you have bad service when all you serve is pastries out of a case and sandwiches? That's incredible, but I guess no matter how simple, someone can screw it up.
I used to like to go to the Bread and Chocolate in the Skyline Center before it went away when the shopping mall was made over into a Target, but I never got anything but a pastry. No hassles then, but it's been at least 15 years. I wasn't aware that there was another location on Capitol Hill, but I wouldn't have gone that far for a B&C fix anyway.

They hired mean and stressed people. By saving a couple dollars per hour not hiring engaged, nice people, and offering them hope for advancement, they lost the whole business. Bad management, good food, good location--just like Murky. Metro stop, Eastern Market, upscale neighbors who want places like it that aren't Tune Inn--they blew it.
